We are all entitled to high quality education.
This is our underlying philosophy.
- There is no limit to what a person can achieve, given confidence and chances. This involves actively avoiding negative assumptions, and providing engaging and challenging tasks within a nurturing environment. Encouraging input and choice are the basic starting points to our work.
- Taking ourselves out of our usual teaching or learning environment enables us to question our practices and our assumptions. We can learn and develop by collaborating with others outside of our area.
- Linking students' places in the world with those of other people can allow them to view their education and thinking as relevant to today, not just to what they might want to become tomorrow. Encouraging students to see that, as educated people, they already have power, is a motivating force. Coupled with confidence, it allows students to see that their actions today can have an effect on the world in which we all live. There are practical ways to encourage this.
- Confidence is the key to learning. Students who are secure about their ability to think and to learn generally exceed targets. With true confidence comes the willingness to listen to others, whether agreeing, disagreeing or simply considering other viewpoints. With this skill we are equipping students to live with their heads held high and their ears attuned to others.
- Practise what we preach. Good practice for students is good practice for all of us.
We endeavour to support educational projects which struggle for the opportunites that we in the UK take for granted.
